Resources for the "TV isn't Good for Kids' Brains" TeleClass
If you didn't get your handouts. You can pick them up here.
As I discuss on the TeleClass, research now indicates that excessive TV watching can cause attentional difficulties--if not ADHD---by age 7. Wow! No wonder so many children are diagnosed with ADHD. No wonder so many kids can't pay attention in school.

The books I mentioned include:
"The Brain that Changes Itself" by Noman Doidge, M.D. As I told you on the call, it isn't primarily about children but does have a section on how TV is making major and not so healthy neurological changes in children and adults who watch a lot of TV. Doidge book is one of the more recent books on the plasticity of the brain.
"Endangered Mind" by Jane Healy. Although this book was published in 1991 and reprinted in 1999, Healy is still quoted as one of the experts on TV and kids. And the information she presents is certainly valid. I recommend it highly.
You can check out the studies I quoted on limiting TV. Many of them are from the mid-1990s but the figures are still valid today--probably higher as the speed of images has increased. And we have no evidence that kids are watching less TV!
